The rules of online Caribbean stud are fairly simple to learn, but you first need to be aware of the hand ranking system of poker, or which hand will beat another. See below for a table showing the payout odds for each hand and this also provides the general poker rank for each hand.
To begin with you will make a starting bet, called the ante bet which is equal to at least the table minimum and can be up to the table maximum. This amount may vary from casino to casino, so check on the pay table of the casino you are playing at for details. This ante bet is the equivalent of buying into any card game. Before the cards are dealt, you can also make a one dollar side bet if you wish to play for the progressive jackpot.
Once you have placed your ante bet, you are dealt 5 cards face up. The dealer is also dealt 5 cards. Four are face down and one is face up.
If at this point you feel your hand is too weak to beat the dealer, you have the opportunity to fold and you only forfeit your ante bet.
If, however you feel your hand is strong enough to beat the dealer, you continue the play by making a call bet, which is double the value of the ante bet.
When you have either folded or made a call bet, the dealer’s hand is revealed. The dealer’s hand is said to qualify if it contains at least ace-king high.
If you did not fold and the dealer’s hand does not qualify, you are paid even money for your ante bet and your call bet is a push, which means the call bet is returned to you.
If the dealer’s hand qualifies and your hand bets it, you are paid even money for the ante bet and your call bet is paid as per the table below:
One Pair or less pays: 1 to1
Two Pairs pays: 2 to 1
Three of a Kind pays: 3 to 1
Straight pays: 4 to 1
Flush pays: 5 to 1
Full House pays: 7 to 1
Four of a Kind pays: 20 to 1
Straight Flush pays: 50 to 1
Royal Flush pays 100 to 1
If the dealer and player have identical hands, the game is deemed a tie and both the ante and call bets will push.
If the dealer has a stronger hand than yours, you lose both the ante and call bets.
If the side bet is played and won, the payout is determined by the value of the poker hand with a minimum payout made to a flush. The amount paid out is set out in the casino’s pay table and may differ from casino to casino.
